Docking Palettes
Or if you can't quite get the co-ordination just right, you can always right click on the icon of a non-running app, and in the Options section of the pop up menu select 'Remove from Dock.' If the app is running, then just uncheck the 'Keep in Dock' entry of the Options section. Undocking and re-docking a laptop to external monitors can be frustrating at times, due to the fact that when you undock, Windows moves all open applications to the laptop monitor. When re-docking, the applications don't automatically move back to the external monitor(s). I have recently moved from Evernote to Onenote for Mac. There are much more potential and functionality in OneNote, however there are a few features I miss. In Evernote you can 'undock' your working note window and move it next to your working area. To dock a palette by dragging it:
- Drag the title bar of the desired palette towards the edge of the application window.
- Move the palette (Mac) or palette’s outline (Windows) to the edge of the docking location and release. Currently docked palettes adjust their location along the edge to accommodate the new palette.
On Windows, the palette’s view switches to a gray outline. When the palette is in range of a window edge, the outline changes shape to represent the new docked shape.
On Mac, when the palette is in range of a window edge, the edge is highlighted in blue to indicate the location of the palette upon docking.
To prevent a palette from docking, hold down the Ctrl key (Windows) or Option key (Mac) while dragging the palette near an edge.
To dock palettes together in the drawing area (Mac only):
Drag the title bar of an undocked palette towards another undocked palette; when the palettes are in range, the closest edge is highlighted in blue to indicate the docking location.
Two groups of docked palettes in the drawing area cannot be docked together; undock one group of palettes and dock each separately to the other group.
To undock a palette by dragging it:
- Drag the title bar of the desired palette away from the edge.
- Drag the palette to the desired location within the drawing area.
On Windows, the palette’s view switches to a gray outline. When the palette is out of window edge range, the outline changes shape to represent the new undocked shape.
To dock or undock a palette by double-clicking (Windows only):
- Double-click a palette’s title bar.
- To toggle the docked/undocked status, double-click the palette’s title bar again.
If the palette was undocked, double-clicking docks it in its previous location. If the palette was docked, double-clicking undocks it and moves it to its previous location in the drawing area.
Once configured, palette positions can be saved; see Saving Initial Palette Positions and Settings.
